The Russian Embassy in Tehran dismissed...

Iran"s official news agency ISNA said earlier on Wednesday that five foreigners, including two Russians, were detained in the capital during February 11 rallies to mark the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi said that three of them were later released, but the case of one of the Russians and of an Afghan national had been handed over to the judiciary, ISNA reported. The prosecutor was quoted as saying that the Russian was arrested for illegally entering the country.

The Russian Embassy denied any of its citizens were experiencing legal difficulties.

"We can say with certainty that the Russian nationals currently on Iranian soil face absolutely no problems with the law," press attache Rafael Gevorkyan said.

He added that the Iranian authorities would have immediately informed the embassy if any such incidents had occurred.

The other foreigners briefly arrested were reportedly French and Japanese nationals.
