During his one-day visit to Caracas, Putin will discuss a wide range of military and economic issues with Chavez and oversee the delivery of the last four Russian Mi-17 Hip helicopters of the total of 38 under a 2006 contract.

"Thirty-four helicopters have already been delivered," a Russian government source said on Wednesday.

The source said that in economic cooperation, "priority will be given to the fuel, energy, and mining sectors."

Since 2005, Venezuela has bought $4 billion worth of Russian weapons, including warplanes, helicopters, and Kalashnikov assault rifles.

Other promising cooperation areas include oil, gas, and transport infrastructures, agriculture, and the financial sphere.

Russia and Venezuela already signed a deal earlier on Friday to jointly develop the Junin 6 oil field in the Latin American state.
