"Next year we will be facing a number of tasks, including financial and social, but I am sure we will be able to tackle them," the Russian leader said.
He urged for progress in the economy, statehood, science and culture.
"We should also think of what we will leave to our descendants," Medvedev said.
The president expressed hope that Russia would "feel" at least slightly better next year than in 2009.
In a live interview aired by three federal television channels on Thursday, Medvedev said Russia could see a GDP growth of 2.5% to 5% in 2010.
