"If he [Chichvarkin] comes [to Moscow] after all, a decision on allowing him to attend his mother"s funeral in case of his detainment will be made by an investigator," the police source said.

Chichvarkin, the former CEO of cell phone retailer Euroset, is wanted in Russia on suspicion of involvement in the 2003 abduction of Euroset"s shipping agent, who allegedly stole large quantities of mobile phones. Chichvarkin has been residing in Great Britain for almost a year.

The body of Chichavrkin"s mother was found in her apartment in Leninsky prospect in west Moscow by a housemaid on Saturday. According to preliminary forensic studies, 60-year-old Lyudmila Chichvarkin fell down, hitting her head on the corner of the table.

"The woman suffered from hypertension. She could have lost consciousness and fallen down, receiving such an injury," the police source said.
